The reading

Last month, I almost bought a new phone. It was the latest model, and I was tempted. My friend Lisa had just gotten one, and she loved it. But when I saw the price tag of $1,200, I had to stop and think. I realized I didn't really need it.

I sat down with a calculator to figure out the real cost. If I bought the phone, it would be $100 a month for a year. That's a lot of money! I thought about what else I could do with that $100 each month. Maybe I could save it for a vacation or pay off some of my student loans.

In the end, I decided not to buy the phone. Instead, I put the money into a savings account. Now, I feel good about my choice. I still have my old phone, and it works just fine. I'm planning to use the saved money for a trip to the mountains with my brother next summer. I think it will be worth it.
