About ESL Nearby

Who we are

ESL Nearby is made by ESL SKILLS LLC, a United States company. We build spoken English lessons for people who are starting out, and for people who want to keep going.

Maya is the face of that work. She took two years to develop — the character, the voice, the way a lesson is spoken rather than printed. The website, the app, and the teachers around her all come from that same project.

Our mission

We want learning English to feel warm, playful, and possible — especially if you are a beginner. Language is learned best by hearing it and speaking it, not by memorizing rules alone.

Meet Maya

Maya is our guide. She speaks every lesson out loud, sounds out words slowly, and stays with you while you practice. Two years of drawing, writing, and recording went into making her feel like a person you can sit next to, not a menu.

What we build

The website has free and paid courses: grammar with Maya and the teachers, writing marked by Emma, and speaking practice including a live mock interview. The app has bite-size spoken lessons, quizzes, pronunciation practice, and a conversational tutor.

Some of those features use the OpenAI API so a computer can listen, mark writing, or talk with you. That is described in our Privacy Policy.
