Cookie Policy
What we store on your device, and why.
Last updated: September 26, 2026
This Cookie Policy is part of our Privacy Policy. It applies to the ESL Nearby website. The app uses account storage on your device and our servers, not website cookies.
ESL Nearby is a product of ESL SKILLS LLC (“we”, “us”).
1. What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file a website saves in your browser. It helps the site remember you — for example, that you are signed in. Some cookies are set by us. Some are set by a company we use to run the site, such as our payment or security provider.
2. Essential cookies we use
We use cookies to run the service and to measure visits from our ads. We do not show ads on ESL Nearby, and we do not sell cookie data.
- Sign-in — When you sign in, we set a session cookie named esln_site. It keeps you signed in as you move from page to page. It is HTTP-only, Secure, and SameSite=Lax. It lasts up to 30 days, or until you sign out.
- Payments — If you buy a course, Stripe may set cookies on the checkout pages so the payment can finish safely.
- Security — Cloudflare, which sits in front of this site, may set cookies to stop abuse and keep the site up.
- Analytics — Google Analytics (gtag.js, measurement ID G-V8VQ2ST72W) sets cookies such as _ga so we can see which pages are visited. Google processes that data under its own privacy policy.
- Ads — Google Ads (gtag.js, tag AW-18139951329) sets cookies so we can see which visits came from our ads. We do not show ads on ESL Nearby. Google processes that data under its own privacy policy.
Without these, you cannot stay signed in or pay. They are not optional if you want those parts of the service.
3. What we do not use
We do not show ads on ESL Nearby. We do not use social-media tracking pixels, and we do not sell cookie data.
4. Local storage
When you tap OK on the cookie bar, we save that choice in your browser’s local storage — not in a cookie. That way we do not put an extra cookie on every visitor, and the public pages can still be cached. Clearing your browser data will show the bar again.
5. Language is not a cookie
The language of the site is in the address — for example /es/ or /ja/. We do not store your language in a cookie.
6. How to control cookies
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block the sign-in cookie, you will have to sign in on every visit. If you block payment or security cookies, checkout or the site itself may not work.
On a phone, the App Store and Google Play have their own settings for the ESL Nearby app. Those are not website cookies.
7. More detail
How we handle personal information, including information sent to OpenAI for some courses and speaking features, is in the Privacy Policy. Privacy Policy.
