The reading

Last year was a turning point in my life. I had been ignoring the warning signs of burnout for months, convincing myself that the persistent headaches and sleepless nights were just part of the job. As a coach, I was used to pushing through pain, but this was different. It wasn’t until I found myself unable to get out of bed one morning that I realized something had to change. The exhaustion had become all-consuming, and no amount of caffeine could mask it anymore.

To be fair, I wasn’t the only one in denial. Many people around me, including my colleagues, dismissed my symptoms as just another phase of working hard. In fact, the culture of 'grinding' and 'hustling' was so ingrained in us that taking a break seemed like admitting defeat. However, the moment I collapsed, the illusion shattered. It was clear that ignoring my body’s signals was no longer an option.

The turning point came when I decided to seek professional help. I consulted a therapist who helped me understand that burnout is not just physical but also emotional and mental. With her guidance, I began to prioritize my well-being, setting boundaries and learning to say no. This was not an easy transition, especially in a society that values productivity over health.

Now, a year later, my life looks different. I still coach, but I approach my work with a new mindset. I’ve learned that taking care of myself is not a luxury but a necessity. If I had continued down that path, I might have faced even more serious health issues. This experience taught me that recognizing and respecting our limits is vital for long-term success.
